What is wrong with my air conditioning unit?
My AC unit is leaking water
This is the most common problem our repair team get called out to. Water can start to leak when a unit has not been serviced, has been serviced by an unqualified professional, or when the condensation pump has failed.
Fortunately, this is also a fairly quick and simple repair. It shouldn’t take any longer than an hour and, even if it is due to a condensation pump failure, our engineers will usually have these parts to hand immediately.
Be sure to call us if your air conditioning unit starts dripping water.
My AC unit won’t turn on
If your AC unit is not working and the wall controller appears to be blank, the fuse has not tripped, and the outdoor unit isolator is definitely switched on, you may need to call in an Arctic engineer to diagnose the problem.
This is usually fairly simple for our highly skilled and experienced team and, if it’s just a quick fix you need, we could even have it sorted the same day. But, if we should require parts to complete your repair, we will always leave you with a written quote – so you’re never left with surprise bills.
My AC unit is not cooling the room at all
In the middle of summer, it’s hard to imagine anything worse than a broken air conditioning unit. When you come in to escape the heat, you want to be sure your AC is cooling the room as it is supposed to.
When a unit is not producing cool air, it could be a gas leak. Don’t worry though: our expert engineers will set to work finding and repairing the leak, then testing all other pipework for faults.
Once this is completed, they can clean out the system of any air, moisture and debris before refilling it with refrigerant. This should only take a few hours to complete, then your AC unit will be back to keeping your home nice and cool.
My AC is not heating the room properly
Similarly, an inefficient air conditioning unit can pose terrible issues in the dead of winter. If you’re certain the heater mode is switched on and there is still no warm air coming from your unit, you should call in our repair team.
The most common cause for an AC unit not cooling or heating is a shortage of refrigerant gas. Your Arctic engineer will check to see if there has been a leak, repair the damage, then replace the gas – so your
If your AC system came with an infrared remote control, you should remember to replace the batteries often to ensure the signal is strong enough.
There is a foul smell coming from my AC unit
As your AC recirculates air from your room, any bad odours from the room can build up on the cooling coils over time as they’re removed. And, since the system also works to remove moisture from the atmosphere inside your home or workspace. This can cause bacteria to build up within the unit too.
Regular servicing will stop these building up too far but, if you notice a foul smell coming from your AC, our engineers will be able to clean the cooling coils with specialist chemicals to eradicate them.
My AC unit is really loud
Your air conditioning unit should, at the most, hum away quietly whilst keeping your room at the optimum temperature. If your unit should start to become noisy, it is a sign that something may be wrong.
This is usually resolved by a replacement fan motor or condensation pump. So, if your unit starts making too much noise, make sure you call your repair engineer as soon as possible to prevent any further damage.
