How often should my AC unit be serviced?
If your AC unit is in a residential environment and is used predominantly for cooling purposes, Arctic Cooling Services recommends a standard annual servicing to keep it functioning properly. Should your AC unit serve as both a heating and a cooling unit, you will find that two visits a year should suffice.
Many of our AC units are applied in shops, offices and restaurants, for the comfort and enjoyment of our clients’ customers. In these cases, we recommend two service appointments per year to ensure you don’t run into any functionality issues – we don’t want your business facing downtime while you wait for an emergency repair.
We consider ‘critical’ applications a higher maintenance priority due to the location of the AC unit. Critical locations are places such as server rooms or areas where there are high levels of air pollution such as workshops and trading floors. For units installed on such premises, we would advise you schedule three or four maintenance visits a year.
If you want to talk with us about a cost-effective maintenance package, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
Reasons for Maintenance
AC units are built to factory-grade standard, but we understand that over time, all machinery suffers from wear. This can result in unwanted complications such as a lack of efficiency, or a decrease in performance. Read on to find out about some of the most common reasons for a maintenance visit.
My AC unit is leaking water
This is a fairly common issue and is nearly always fixed within an hour of your engineer’s arrival. Often, an AC unit leaking water has a failed condensate pump or it’s in need of a general service overhaul, which can be completed quickly during your scheduled maintenance visits.
My AC unit is losing performance
With regularly scheduled maintenance visits, the risk of a loss in performance can be greatly reduced. However, should your AC unit start to show signs of a lack in functionality, we will be able to resolve the problem quickly.
Usually, loss of performance occurs when the unit becomes dirty, though if the problem is due to a refrigerant leak, the problem can become more serious. In this case, our highly-skilled engineers will thoroughly investigate the problem and quote you for any additional work to be carried out.
My AC unit keeps freezing
Frozen or ‘dripping’ AC units should be reported immediately. This problem could either be down to the unit becoming dirty and not being able to filter the air properly or, in some cases, a leak. In either case, we recommend calling Arctic Cooling Services as early as possible as prolonged ‘freezing’ issues can cause the system to eventually fail and require a replacement.
My AC unit is releasing a foul smell
The condensation an AC unit produces will begin to mix with bacteria on the pipes and, over time, this can result in an unwanted odour. Regular maintenance and pipe cleaning services will ensure this does not happen.
My AC unit is consuming too much electricity
Regular maintenance on your AC unit means that it will work efficiently. Failing to have your unit serviced allows dirt and grime to build up inside the system, which means it will have to ‘work harder’ to reach a normal level of performance – this will result in increased energy bills. Regular service visits will maintain the efficiency of your unit, and ensure it is consuming the standard amount of electricity.
My AC unit is producing poor airflow
Poor airflow can either be down to a faulty fan, or a build-up of dirt within the system. Our engineers can fix this problem quickly and simply, so we recommend getting in touch as soon as you notice a change in circulation.
